Licensed Practical Nurse (Night Shift)

Location: Virginia Correctional Center for Women.

Hiring Range: 30.05 - 38.99 /hr.

Pay Band: 3.

Agency: Dept of Corr - Central Admin.

Job Type: General Public - G.

Sign‑On Bonus: $3,500 sign‑on bonus or up to $10,000 student loan repayment may be available for eligible new hires.

• LPNs provide evidence‑based nursing care utilizing the nursing process and general nursing principles under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Screen for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed.
• Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff, providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan.
• Record all pertinent information into the medical record.
• Interact with other departments as needed.
• Promote continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
• Work hours, days, and locations as assigned and be available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
• Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the Board of Nursing or a multi‑state compact license. If a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX‑PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application.
• Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
• Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
• Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders in applying treatments.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care.
• Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.

• Experience working in a corrections or law‑enforcement environment.
• Experience or related training in the delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
