Location: Nottoway Correctional Center
OverviewProvides quality professional health care to inmates and assists employees during emergency events. Leads and oversees Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants (CNA), Registered Nurses (RN), and Registered Nurse Supervisors (RNCA). Serves as a liaison between Operations at the institution and the Health Services Unit. Responsible for the continuous operation of medical services at the institution. Acts as the designated Health Authority if the facility does not meet the criteria for a Registered Nurse Coordinator (RNC), or there is no RNC/Director of Nursing.
Assignment to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
Sign‑On Bonus of $7,500 or up to $10,000 Student Loan Repayment may be available for eligible new hires.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia RN license. (Recent graduates under the NCLEX‑RN exam required.)
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers, current through AHA or ARC, required upon hire.
- Experience as a supervisor or charge nurse.
- Experience in monitoring staff performance, including discipline, evaluations, and creation of duty assignments.
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence‑based practices, including Continuous Quality Improvement, education/training requirements, and patient safety.
- Knowledge of medication use, actions, and side effects.
- Ability to effectively communicate, direct, and delegate while maintaining daily operations.
- Skill in organizing, planning, and implementing policies and procedures.
- Experience working in a corrections or law‑enforcement environment.
