We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and compassionate Nurse to deliver exceptional care to our pediatric patients. In this role, you will balance hands‑on clinical duties, precise documentation, and supportive leadership to ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for families.
Key Responsibilities & Job DutiesDirect Patient Care & Clinical Skills
Assessment & Triage: Assess pediatric patients to identify actual and potential care needs; prioritize and assume immediate care for high-risk/high-acuity patients
.Vital Signs & Metrics: Collect and document accurate medical info and vital signs;
obtain patient weights strictly in kilograms
; promptly relay out‑of‑range values to providers.Advanced Interventions: Perform IV insertions, fluid management, and administer IM, IV, SubQ, and nebulized medications using standard safe procedures.
Clinical Assisting: Support providers with procedures including phlebotomy, specimen/lab collection, splinting, and strategic patient positioning.
Medication Safety: Safely order, administer, count, and document medications utilizing the 5 Rights of Medication Administration (Patient, Drug, Dose, Route, Time).
Medical Equipment: Dispense Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and nebulizers, securing proper paperwork and providing clear usage instructions to patients/parents.
Flow Optimization: Actively monitor and facilitate smooth patient flow throughout the clinical area.
Staff Mentorship: Serve as an accessible clinical resource to Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for patient care questions and concerns.
Operational Accountability: Ensure all daily tasks, opening/closing duties, and checklists are fully completed.
Chart Accuracy: Complete concise, accurate, and timely documentation in patient charts while they are still in the department.
Financial Integrity: Correctly associate proper charges and CPT codes to patient charts; practice strict cost containment for both the practice and the patient.
Complaint Resolution: Promptly report all parent/patient complaints to the manager to ensure swift, appropriate action.
Room Readiness: Ensure exam rooms are clean and sanitized prior to bringing any patient back.
Equipment Care: Perform weekly maintenance on the autoclave; assist with clinical support tasks like laundry, lab tests, and supply forms.
Shift Wrap‑up: Maintain a tidy overall work environment, ensuring the staff lounge and work areas are clean and equipment is put away at the end of each shift.
Patient Advocacy: Treat all patients and families with dignity, conveying absolute respect for patient rights.
Collaborative Culture: Function as a supportive team member, promoting positive customer/peer relations and fostering a continuous learning environment.
Engagement: Actively participate in all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
Education: Graduate from an approved nursing program.
Licensure: Valid state license to practice nursing in the State of Virginia
.Certification: Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Experience (Preferred):
- One (1) year of nursing experience in pediatrics.
- Prior Emergency Department or Urgent Care experience.
