Job DutiesBe an integral part of our Substance Use Recovery Team.
Provide evidence-based nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, including screening for sick call, administering medications, providing first aid and basic life support, and maintaining open communication with security and treatment staff.
Record all pertinent information in the medical record and interact with other departments as needed.
Promote continued competence through education and certification, focusing on correctional nursing. Provide coverage as assigned, including alternate 24 or 32 hour work schedules.
Work no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period May 1 – April 30, limited to 29 hours per week on average. This wage position offers no state benefits.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license or a multi-state compact license.
- Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
- Ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers’ orders.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and administer practical nursing care.
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers, current through AHA or ARC.
- Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
