Adjunct Faculty – Clinical Nursing
About the RoleSouthside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks dedicated, professional registered nurses to join our clinical adjunct faculty pool supporting both the Traditional Nursing Program and the Weekend Nursing Program across campuses and clinical sites in South Boston, Keysville, Alberta, and Chase City. The position reports to the Full‑Time Faculty, Program Coordinator/Director, and the Dean of Nursing, Allied Health, and Natural Sciences.
Location & ScheduleWork locations:
South Boston, Keysville, Alberta, Chase City. Work schedule includes day, evening, and weekend rotations. Clinical hours are limited to a maximum of 29 per week.
Salary ranges from $793.00 to $1,098.00 per credit, depending on qualifying rank.
Duties & Responsibilities- Become familiar with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing program.
- Review the Nursing Student Handbook, adjunct faculty handbook, and general college policies.
- Attend student and faculty orientations.
- Plan clinical rotation paths and select patient assignments aligned with student learning outcomes.
- Provide continuous on‑site supervision and guidance using nursing process components.
- Remain highly accessible to students in clinical settings.
- Review and discuss clinical objectives with students.
- Conduct pre‑ and post‑clinical conferences.
- Serve as an active professional role model and resource.
- Review, correct, and comment on written clinical assignments; return them within one week.
- Evaluate and record student progress at midterm and at the end of each rotation using designated evaluation forms.
- Maintain an optimal learning environment and cooperative relationships with clinical agency personnel.
- Report student absences and any concerns promptly to the lead full‑time faculty or Program Coordinator/Director.
- Attend nursing faculty, curricular, or college meetings as designated.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required;
Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) highly preferred. - At least two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a teaching setting.
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (or multi‑state privilege).
- Ongoing professional competence through continued nursing practice, continuing education, workshops, or academic courses.
No state or VCCS benefits. Positions are appointed on a course‑by‑course, semester basis. Travel and vehicle operation not required. No supervisory responsibilities.
