Seasonal Vaccination Administration Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Type: Seasonal, Part-Time/Temporary

Season: Late August through Early November

Schedule: Variable weekday hours with occasional Saturdays

Location: Community partner sites throughout the local area

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary

Commonshare is seeking an experienced, organized, and community-focused Registered Nurse to coordinate and lead seasonal vaccination clinics at local community partner locations. The Seasonal Vaccination Administration RN will be responsible for planning clinic logistics, preparing vaccination stations, administering vaccines, supervising clinic staff, and ensuring that each clinic operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable clinical and regulatory requirements.

The position will begin in late August and continue through early November. Hours will vary based on the vaccination clinic schedule and may include occasional Saturdays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate vaccination clinic dates, schedules, staffing needs, supplies, and on-site logistics with Commonshare leadership and community partners.
  • Serve as the clinical lead during vaccination clinics including performing administration.
  • Outreach and contact to new and current locations for clinics.
  • Prepare and organize vaccination stations, clinical supplies, emergency equipment, patient forms, and educational materials.
  • Administer vaccines safely and accurately in accordance with current clinical guidelines, standing orders, manufacturer instructions, and Commonshare policies.
  • Review patient screening information, medical history, allergies, contraindications, and vaccine eligibility before administration.
  • Provide patients with vaccine information, answer questions, and explain potential side effects and recommended follow-up care.
  • Ensure appropriate vaccine storage, handling, temperature monitoring, preparation, and inventory control.
  • Maintain accurate and timely vaccination records, consent forms, inventory documentation, and required reporting.
  • Assign responsibilities to clinic personnel and provide direction to nurses, pharmacy staff, administrative staff, volunteers, and other team members.
  • Monitor clinic workflow and make adjustments to maintain patient safety, privacy, and timely service.
  • Observe patients following vaccination and respond appropriately to adverse reactions or medical emergencies.
  • Complete clinic setup and breakdown, including reconciliation of vaccines, supplies, documentation, and unused inventory.
  • Communicate clinic outcomes, staffing concerns, supply needs, incidents, and follow-up items to Commonshare leadership.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, occupational safety, patient confidentiality, and medication administration standards.
  • Represent Commonshare professionally and help create a welcoming, respectful experience for community partners and patients.
  • Perform other related duties necessary to support Commonshare’s seasonal vaccination program.
Required Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Virginia or a qualifying multistate nursing license.
  • Current Basic Life Support or CPR certification.
  • Experience administering vaccinations, injections, or other medications.
  • Knowledge of vaccine screening, contraindications, storage, handling, documentation, and adverse-reaction procedures.
  • Ability to independently lead a clinical operation and provide direction to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel to community partner locations within the service area.
  • Availability for variable weekday hours and occasional Saturdays between late August and early November.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other applicable requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience coordinating or leading community vaccination clinics.
  • Experience administering influenza, COVID‑19, pneumococcal, RSV, or other pediatric and adult vaccines.
  • Experience working in a pharmacy, public health, community health, ambulatory care, or nonprofit healthcare setting.
