Job Duties- LPNs provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Screens for sick call, administers medications, and provides first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed.
- Maintains open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan.
- Records all pertinent information into the medical record.
- Interacts with other departments as needed.
- Promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
- Nurses must have the ability to work hours, days and locations as assigned along with being capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
- Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
- This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12‑month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date.
- The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year; all wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12‑month period.
- This wage position offers no state benefits.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi‑state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX‑PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application).
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
- Experience in carrying out provider’s orders in applying treatments.
- Maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
