Kiptopeke State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger
position.
The Maintenance Ranger will maintain, improve and protect park facilities, grounds, systems, resources, vehicles and equipment by performing and supervising maintenance projects. This requires using skills a variety of trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, landscaping, small engine repair, and troubleshooting systems. The position will supervise wage employees, volunteers and alternative labor performance of these operations. The Maintenance Ranger will provide guest satisfaction by ensuring clean, safe and well-maintained facilities and grounds;
providing good information to guests; and assisting with guest services. The position will also assist with other park operations by delivering specialized program area skills and procuring materials, services or supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform duties to maintain the required park upkeep such as lawn care, leaf and trash removal and more helping to ensure the park is suitable.
- Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Clean and maintain bathhouses, campsites, and facilities.
- Assist with additional maintenance and operational tasks as assigned by supervisors.
- Requires standing, bending, and working in outdoor elements.
- Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Requires lifting up and caring up to 50 lbs independently.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and equipment for landscaping.
- Experienceperformingbasic maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Demonstrated experience performing landscaping including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing.
- Requires working in a variety of weather conditions and various shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays
- Previous experience with the trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.
- General knowledge of park operations and local attractions.
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
