Group Leader ICP-MS (Metals) Job Description

Summary:

Lead a team focused on ICP-MS (Metals) analysis, ensuring efficient operations, high-quality data generation, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders. Provide technical expertise, support staff development, and maintain compliance with quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage personnel, ensuring operational efficiency and effective time management within the team.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution, foster team building, and support staff skills development.
  • Coordinate project scheduling and ensure timely, accurate communication with internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare data summaries for inclusion in client reports and maintain organized records of sample preparation and analysis.
  • Oversee sample and standard preparation, instrument calibration, and maintenance, including troubleshooting as needed.
  • Write and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure adequate inventory of consumables and parts.
  • Promote a positive work environment, address non-conformance issues, and oversee projects to improve analytical efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance, health and safety policies, and review customer data for adherence to quality management standards and requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in a majority of metals analysis methods.
  • Strong understanding of the physical or chemical principles underlying analytical assays.
  • Skilled in ICP-MS operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, communicate, and prioritize tasks effectively for staff.
  • Experience handling non-routine samples and managing departmental workflow, including scheduling and logistics for multiple assays.
  • Proven experience with scheduling and coordinating deadlines across multiple groups and disciplines.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and remain composed under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to facilitate organizational communication and resolve conflicts.
