Corrections officers contribute to the public safety mission by ensuring effective and safe custody and control, while complying with policy and procedure. They provide security over adult inmates at the institution and during transport, supervise daily inmate activities, observe and record behaviors and movements, and maintain a safe and secure confinement environment.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare reports and documentation
- Legal possession of a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Successful completion of all pre‑employment requirements, including medical screening, background check, and drug testing for marijuana use
Stable employment history, military or related criminal justice experience. Preference for individuals at least 21 years old (waiver may be provided for ages 18‑20). Bilingual and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
