Sign‑on bonus: $3,000.00 (for eligible applicants)
Job ResponsibilitiesCorrections officers contribute to the public safety mission by ensuring the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates. This is achieved by maintaining effective and safe custody and control, following policy and procedure, and applying evidence‑based practices. Officers provide security over adult inmates at the institution and during transport, supervise daily inmate activities, observe and record behavior and movement to ensure safe and secure confinement.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures, and prepare reports and documentation
- Lawful possession of a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Successful completion of all pre‑employment requirements: medical screening, background check, drug testing (including marijuana screening)
- Stable employment history, military or related criminal justice experience
- Preference for individuals aged 21 or older (waiver for 18–20 possible)
- Bi‑lingual and multi‑lingual applicants encouraged to apply
