Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Security Officer role based in the Hampton Roads, Virginia Metropolitan Area. The Security Officer will monitor and patrol assigned premises, including interior and exterior areas, to deter unauthorized activities and ensure a safe environment for clients, visitors, and team members. Responsibilities include controlling access points, checking identification or credentials, responding to alarms and incidents, and accurately documenting daily activities, observations, and any security-related events.
The role involves working closely with clients and colleagues, providing professional customer service, and following all company, site, and regulatory procedures. The Security Officer may also assist with emergency response, coordinate with law enforcement or emergency services when needed, and participate in ongoing training to maintain required certifications and skills.
- Ability to maintain situational awareness, conduct thorough patrols, and follow established security and safety procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with clients, visitors, and team members, including de-escalating tense situations.
- Capacity to observe, document, and report incidents clearly and accurately, both verbally and in written reports.
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies, including coordinating with law enforcement or emergency responders as needed.
- Commitment to reliability, punctuality, and maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Eligibility to meet Virginia DCJS requirements for Security Officers; current DCJS registration or certification is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to complete required ESS and DCJS training, which may include unarmed/armed security officer courses, defensive tactics, and first aid/CPR/AED.
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior military, law enforcement, or private security experience is a plus.
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods and, when required, work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
