This opportunity resides with All-Domain Operations (ADO), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. All-Domain Operations comprises multi-domain operations, platforms and logistics, and intelligence operations.

HII designs, develops, integrates and manages the sensors, systems and other assets necessary to support integrated ISR operations and accelerated decision‑making.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Technical Specialist to support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in computer architecture, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, software engineering, and related fields, who can assess inventions for patentability.

The IP Technical Specialist will support the NGA Office of Research and Technology Applications (ORTA) and the Office of General Counsel (OGC) with patent assessments, preparation of patent applications, and drafting responses to USPTO actions. This position requires on‑site work in St. Louis, MO or Springfield, VA; remote work is not authorized.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct patent searches to assess the novelty and patentability of computer architecture, AI, and other computer science inventions.
  • Conduct interviews with inventors to capture all required aspects of technologies submitted for the ORTA.
  • Collaborate with inventors and OGC to develop patent prosecution strategy.
  • Prepare patent applications, including drafting specifications, drawings, and claims; ensure technical accuracy.
  • Provide technical and legal research and analysis to assist OGC with NGA submissions pending before the USPTO.
  • Assist OGC with preparing responses to USPTO actions and docket management.
  • Ensure procedures for classifying and maintaining patent records.
  • Interpret and enforce documentation formatting, standards, policies, and operating procedure requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors; 3 years with Masters; 0 years with PhD or Juris Doctorate; or 9 years with High School Diploma.
  • US TS/SCI security clearance required at hire (US citizenship required).
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in computer architecture, AI, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, software engineering, or programming.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Superior writing and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Patent Laws, Manual of Patent Examining Procedure, and USPTO regulations.
Preferred Requirements
  • Located near NGA offices in St. Louis, MO or Springfield, VA.
  • USPTO registration preferred.
  • Submissions to technical journals and authoring White Papers.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with quick turn‑around times and minimal supervision.
