Corrections officers provide safety and security for staff, inmates and the public, ensuring effective custody and control, maintaining compliance with policies, observing and recording inmate behavior, and supervising daily activities during confinement and transport.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid Driver’s License
• Read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures, prepare reports and documentation
• Lawful possession of a firearm in Virginia
• Complete medical screening, background check and drug testing (including marijuana screening)

• Stable employment history, military or criminal justice experience
• Prefer individuals at least 21 years old (waiver for 18‑20 possible)
• Bilingual or multilingual applicants encouraged

All applicants are subject to a comprehensive background investigation including fingerprint checks, employment verification, education verification, credit checks, and others as required.

Applicants for safety‑sensitive positions (e.g., firearm‑holding roles) must pass a pre‑employment drug screen. Marijuana use is prohibited for these positions.
