PayMinimum salary $64,500 to $69,143 annually. Troopers assigned to the Northern Virginia area receive $80,593 to $86,394 annually, commensurate with up to five years of prior Virginia DCJS‑certified patrol experience.

The Virginia State Police seeks pre‑certified Virginia law‑enforcement patrol officers to promote highway safety, serve and protect the community, and enforce Commonwealth laws. Successful applicants complete a training academy, receive a patrol vehicle and uniform, and may advance into specialized units such as Chaplaincy, Aviation, Executive Protection, K‑9, Motorcycle, Search and Recovery, and Tactical Team. Veterans and community‑focused individuals are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications- Virginia DCJS Certified Law Enforcement Patrol Officer
- Currently employed with a Virginia law‑enforcement organization or formerly employed as a certified officer within the past 24 months
- Completed the Field Training phase with the previous department
- At least 21 years of age on the date of graduation
- High‑school graduate or GED holder
- United States citizen at the time of testing
- Valid driver’s license
- Willing to travel to 7700 Midlothian Turnpike, North Chesterfield, VA 23235 for hiring and training phases
- Successfully pass all Phase One pre‑employment tests, including a Work Performance Test
- Successfully complete a polygraph examination and background investigation for Phase Two
- Successfully complete a medical examination and psychological evaluation for Phase Three
- Weight in proportion to height on the date of hire
- Willing to relocate anywhere in the state based on department needs
- Willing to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends
- Compliant with the Department’s tattoo and body modification policies
