Security Officer I – Part‑time

Position Number: 282W0007 | Pay Band: $17.90 – $20.00 per hour |

Employment Type:

Part‑time (maximum of 29 hours per week) | Shift: Day;
No weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and make rounds to ensure the safety and security of PVCC community members and facilities.
  • Lock and unlock college buildings, doors, and classrooms.
  • Provide visitors and college community members with information and directions to campus buildings, classrooms, and off‑campus areas.
  • Notify campus police of suspicious persons, activities, or safety hazards found during tours of duty.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs of activity.
  • Operate security and state vehicles.
  • Respond to complaints and conduct preliminary investigations.
  • Answer alarms and disturbances; contact police, fire, and rescue in case of an emergency and follow established college emergency procedures.
  • Patrol among visitors and community members to preserve order and protect property.
  • Answer phones in a professional manner.
  • Patrol parking lots and issue warnings to persons with rule infractions or law violations; write tickets for parking violations.
  • Escort, via motor vehicle or golf cart, individuals to specified locations or provide personal protection.
  • Provide limited aid when individuals experience motor vehicle problems.
  • Monitor and check fire and safety devices.
  • Demonstrate reliability and accountability by attending all scheduled shifts and appointments.
  • Be available for contact during emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and take directions from multiple individuals.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving history.
  • Successful completion of a background review, including criminal history and driving history.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Basic knowledge of campus environment and/or security industry, relevant laws, and safety and fire prevention.
Additional Considerations
  • Prior experience in Criminal Justice or related field, or two years of law‑enforcement experience.
  • Demonstrated strong student orientation and customer focus.
  • Strong service orientation and demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multicultural community with excellent written and verbal skills.
