Unarmed Security Officer, Security Officer III. Responsible for providing security and safety functions on NVCC campuses and properties, and maintaining a safe environment for employees, students, visitors, and campus property.

• Patrol, control traffic (vehicular and pedestrian), and manage site and building access.
• Assist the public and exchange information; report unusual or emergency conditions to appropriate authorities.
• Support the NOVA Police Department with safety and security operations across campus locations.

Note: Must be able to pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

• Ability to complete DCJS Campus Security Officer training certification.
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively in English (oral and written).
• Ability to demonstrate understanding of laws, local ordinances, and College policies through daily tasks.
• Maintain positive public relations and meet physical demands of the job.
• Ability to pass a psychological and physical exam.

• 21 years of age
• U.S. citizen or lawful resident for the past 5 consecutive years
• Qualification for appointment as a campus security officer under DCJS guidelines
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Pass a background investigation; no criminal record

• Experience as a security officer, preferably in college, university, or high school security enforcement.
