Job DutiesCorrections officers contribute to the public safety mission by providing safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates by ensuring effective custody and control while complying with policy and procedure. Officers provide security over adult inmates at the institution and during transport; supervise daily inmate activities, observing and recording behavior and movement to ensure safe confinement.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace reports and documentation.
- Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in Virginia.
- Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment requirements including medical screening, background check and drug testing (including marijuana use screening).
- Stable employment history.
- Military or related criminal justice experience.
- Preferred age: at least 21 years old (waiver for 18‑20 possible).
- Bi‑lingual and multi‑lingual applicants encouraged.
