Corrections officers contribute to the public safety mission by providing for the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates through effective custody and control, and compliance with policy and procedure. Officers ensure evidence-based practices, communication strategies, and role modeling as part of collaborative multidisciplinary teams addressing inmate needs. They maintain security over adult inmates at the institution and during transport;

supervise daily activities, observe and record inmate behavior and movement to ensure safe confinement.

Sign‑On Bonus: $6,000 (available to eligible new hires).

• High School Diploma or a GED equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures, and to prepare workplace reports and documentation.
• Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Ability to successfully complete all pre‑employment requirements including medical screening, background check, drug testing, and screening for marijuana use.

• Stable employment history, military or related criminal justice experience.
• Prefer individuals at least 21 years old (waiver may be provided for ages 18–20).
