Job Duties

About the Position:
The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Buildings and Grounds Superintendent A in our Property and Finance Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Managing and supervising the Building and Grounds Section.
  • Overseeing building and grounds projects.
  • Managing facility repair projects.
  • Overseeing the preventative maintenance program.
  • Managing repairs and upgrades to electrical systems.
  • Responsible for all maintenance of facilities and the upkeep of grounds.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Construction techniques and State building codes, and associated safety practices.
  • Computer room environmental support equipment.
  • Supervisory principles and practices.
  • Air conditioning, heating, electrical systems, landscaping, woodworking and carpentry.

Skill:

  • Use of computers and Microsoft Office applications.

Ability:

  • Interpret and understand drawings, electrical diagrams and specifications.
  • Supervise a variety of trades staff, overseeing major building repairs, and making repairs in air conditioning and heating, electrical and carpentry.
  • Oversee and perform preventative and general maintenance on equipment.
  • Communicate orally and in writing effectively in English.
  • Work independently and as a member of the team.
  • EPA Universal certification for freon handling in HVAC systems required within 12 months of assignment/hire.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Additional Considerations
  • Training in HVAC is preferred.
