Location Address: 1006 Weis Remote Road. Travel from site to site to service and repair refrigeration, HVAC, and other miscellaneous equipment in retail supermarkets across Maryland and Virginia, including Accokeek, La Plata, Charlotte Hall (MD) and Fredericksburg, Stafford (VA).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Respond to service requests to repair supermarket refrigeration systems, HVAC, cardboard balers, checkout counters, lighting, humidifiers, and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Complete service reports, timesheets, expense reports, purchase records, and other documentation.
  • Maintain contact with Sunbury dispatch via telephone and voicemail to receive new service calls.
  • Perform periodic preventive maintenance inspections and procedures; keep the work area and service van neat, clean, and safe.
  • Communicate with the Service Supervisor to advise on the need for further action when appropriate.
  • Interview store personnel to determine the need for service and instruct them in proper operational techniques.
  • Train new Service Technicians.
  • Work and drive safely, using appropriate safety gear and techniques.
  • Respond to emergency breakdown calls whenever possible.
  • Project a professional image to associates, customers, and others; observe all rules of food safety and hygiene.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervision and as required for the execution of additional responsibilities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Good judgment, reliability, initiative, tact, integrity, dependability, and quick thinking.
  • Computer literate.
  • Knowledge of MSDS and OSHA; EPA certified (Type I and II) in proper refrigeration practices.
  • Capable of working on roofs, scaffolds, and ladders at medium heights (~30 ft).
  • Strong verbal, written, and reading skills; ability to read, interpret, and apply manufacturers’ instructions and communicate with store personnel.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record; must be insurable.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands and adjust priorities as conditions dictate.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems and service techniques, including troubleshooting, electrical, and brazing skills.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments common to the trade.
  • Adherence to proper food safety techniques for the supermarket industry.
PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Directs the activities of trainees when applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary technical training in a related discipline or five years of experience in maintenance of commercial refrigeration systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Sensory ability to perform responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work under extremes of weather, heat, cold, noise, and dust typical of supermarkets.
  • Ability to work under time pressure, without direct supervision, and outside normal working hours for emergencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work environments include service truck, supermarket sales area, refrigeration equipment room, and rooftop.
  • Substantial amounts of standing, bending, lifting, climbing, and reaching.
  • Exposure to fumes from refrigerant leaks, solvents, oils, and brazing.
  • Some work in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to temperature extremes, noise, and dust.
RATE OF PAY AND BENEFITS
  • Hourly pay starts at $30.00 and can rise to $44.00.
