Position: Welding Inspector (CWI)

Title:

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
Compensation:
Up to $55/hour + Per Diem up to $180/day

A leading steel fabrication and construction contractor is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for a 6–12 month contract
, with the potential for long-term extension. This role will support structural steel and bridge-related projects across Virginia, ensuring all welding inspection, testing, and documentation is completed to the highest industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform welding inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5 standards
  • Conduct and oversee inspection activities across structural steel, bridge, and heavy fabrication projects
  • Perform UT Shear Wave (UTSW), PT, and MT inspections as required
  • Review weld procedures, welder qualifications, drawings, specifications, and inspection plans
  • Ensure all welds meet project specifications, code requirements, and quality standards
  • Document inspection results, non-conformances, corrective actions, and daily reports
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, welders, fabricators, and quality teams
  • Support QA/QC processes throughout fabrication, erection, and field welding activities
  • Maintain compliance with AWS, project-specific, and client quality requirements
Who You Are
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5
  • Experience with UTSW, PT, and MT inspection methods
  • Background in structural steel, bridge, heavy civil, or industrial fabrication projects
  • Ability to read and interpret welding procedures, drawings, and project specifications
  • Strong reporting, communication, and documentation skills
  • Willingness to work on-site in Virginia for the duration of the contract
  • Prior experience on DOT, bridge, or infrastructure projects is strongly preferred
