Field Service Technician– Water & Wastewater Automation

E.W.P. Group is seeking a driven, technically skilled Field Service Technician to service our customers in the Eastern Virginia market. Candidates should already reside in Eastern Virginia to effectively support customers throughout the territory.

Work independently in the field while being backed by an experienced engineering and project management team.

As a Field Service Technician, you'll work on PLCs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, VFDs, industrial networks, and electrical controls at municipal water and wastewater facilities throughout Virginia. Every day brings a new challenge, from startup and commissioning to troubleshooting critical systems that keep communities running.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining automation and control systems at water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and industrial facilities.

Travel throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C., primarily Monday through Friday. Overnight travel is expected, with weekends generally spent at home unless supporting emergency customer needs.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, startup, and commission electrical control panels and automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation, and communication systems.
  • Diagnose electrical and control system issues using schematics and test equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and emergency service calls.
  • Configure field instrumentation including:
  • Flow meters
  • Level transmitters
  • Analytical instruments
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Document service activities and prepare detailed field service reports.
  • Train customers in equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and customers.
What You Bring
  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of field service, industrial electrical, controls, or automation experience.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of:
  • HMI and SCADA systems (VTSCADA, Ignition, or similar)
  • Industrial Ethernet and communication protocols
  • Motor controls and VFDs
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel approximately 85%, including overnight travel.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in municipal water or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation calibration.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Automation products.
  • Experience with Ignition, Factory Talk View, Wonderware, and VTScada.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • NFPA 70E training.
