Position: 1044 - Data Center Technician L1

Overview

The Data Center Technician delivers on-site support and maintenance for the electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems that ensure uninterrupted operation of NTT Global Data Centers. The role focuses on maximizing uptime, meeting regulatory compliance, and driving operational cost efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce operational costs while improving efficiency across mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems.
  • Operate and monitor HVAC equipment (roof top units, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification), chilled water systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and water treatment systems.
  • Manage electrical distribution, including utility/generator switch gear, UPS, ATS, PDU, and transformer systems.
  • Maintain and test fire life safety components such as wet and pre‑action sprinkler systems, detectors, and associated controls.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and technical orders to plan and execute installation, inspection, and repair work.
  • Perform hand and power tool work to install or replace electrical/electronic components, including hard wiring, cable runs, and equipment mounting.
  • Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems; use diagnostic instruments (multimeter, infrared camera).
  • Collaborate with CF Ops Lead Technician to execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs and analyze operating conditions to recommend technology upgrades.
  • Coordinate with contractors and consultants to ensure quality assurance for system expansions and upgrades.
  • Report findings and provide feedback to DCO Engineering on standards effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and maintain predictable attendance.
Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of data center mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems, including NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and related building codes.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining large industrial systems (chillers, cooling towers, pumps, HVAC, UPS, generators, diesel standby, PLC/BMS).
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices: lockout/tag‑out, arc flash, OSHA, and state regulations.
  • Competency in data trending, monitoring, and PC‑based integrated critical systems.
  • Hands‑on installation and maintenance of large commercial/industrial systems and equipment handling (forklift, tool operation).
  • Excellent written and oral communication; ability to coordinate with internal staff and external contractors.
  • Strong analytical, multi‑tasking, and problem‑solving skills; willing to work flexibly, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Education & Experience
  • L1 – High School Diploma or GED;
    Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience; minimum 2 years in a mechanical/electrical position within critical facilities. CPR/First Aid, NFPA 70E, and OSH-approved forklift certification mandatory.
  • L2 – Associate of Science in Technology or equivalent; minimum 3 years in a mechanical/electrical role within critical facilities. CPR/First Aid, NFPA 70E, and forklift certification required.
Physical Requirements

Primarily walking, standing, bending, and light lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires dexterity for detailed work, appliance operations, ladder climbing, and raised platform work. Close visual work on computer terminal needed.

Work Conditions

Environment includes varying temperatures and loud noise. Extensive use of workstations/computers. On‑site only; telecommuting not permitted.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly base salary $33.00 – $61.25, eligible for overtime per state/federal law.
