Electric Transmission Field Ops Technical Assistant I/II/III (Petersburg)

Job Summary

Successful candidates will participate in Electric Transmission Field Operation’s (ETFO) Technical Assistant Development program. This three‑year program is designed to develop the electrical principles and basic technical knowledge needed to prepare for a System Protection Technician or Electrical Equipment Technician position.

This position supports the Electric Equipment team located at the Petersburg district office. The team specializes in protective relaying, control circuits, and operational technology systems, ensuring the reliability and functionality of Dominion Energy’s transmission and distribution network through diagnostic testing and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare material and equipment for work activities.
  • Pull stock materials.
  • Order parts and materials.
  • Return equipment to manufacturer for warranty repair.
  • Operate company vehicle as required to support duties.
  • Deliver parts and materials to job sites and perform vehicle inspections.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Qualifications depend on the level:

  • Technical Assistant I – 0–1 year of basic knowledge of electrical and electronic theory.
  • Technical Assistant II – 1–2 years of basic knowledge of electrical and electronic theory.
  • Technical Assistant III – 2+ years of basic knowledge of electrical and electronic theory.

All Levels:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Maintains a clean job site and eliminates hazards when identified.
  • Adheres to corporate and departmental safety protocols.
  • Effective computer skills with Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and meet a 290‑pound weight restriction.
  • Must live within a reasonable travel range (1 hour) of the service territory.
  • Desire to learn and grow within the organization.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiar with control drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Prior experience with electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical concepts and applications.
  • Prior experience in electrical or electrical system troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Knowledge of test equipment used for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of related software tools.
Education Requirements
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Preferred:
    Completion of a Vocational‑Technical (VoTech) program or certificate focused on Electrical and Electronics Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics or Industrial Maintenance, Computer Applications and Office Technology, Technical Communication, or a similar technical program.
Working Conditions

  • Travel up to 25 % of time.
  • Cold: 76‑100 % of time.
  • Heat: 76‑100 % of time.
  • Operating machinery: 76‑100 % of time.
Compensation

Expected hiring base salary ranges:

  • Technical Assistant I: $38,200 – $49,600
  • Technical Assistant II: $42,300 – $54,500
  • Technical Assistant III: $47,300 – $75,500
