Mechanical Assembly / Repair Technician Job Description
This role focuses on diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing a broad range of mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, and optical equipment down to the component level. The equipment is similar in complexity to ATM or mail sorting systems, and you will use strong mechanical skills and technical knowledge to ensure reliable operation and high-quality repairs.
ResponsibilitiesTroubleshoot and repair equipment down to the component level across a broad product line of mechanical, electro-mechanical, electronic, and optical systems.
Diagnose technical problems on mechanical product lines using systematic analysis and problem-solving techniques.
Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, and reassembly of equipment using appropriate hand tools and repair methods.
Identify faulty components and replace or repair them to restore equipment to proper working condition.
Work with equipment similar to ATM or mail sorting machinery, ensuring accurate and efficient repairs.
Document issues, repair actions, and outcomes to support ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with other repair technicians in a technical team environment to share knowledge and resolve complex issues.
Maintain a high standard of workmanship, safety, and care when handling mechanical and electronic components.
Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment.
Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and repair equipment to the component level.
Strong mechanical skills with working knowledge of mechanical equipment and assemblies.
Experience with electrical or mechanical systems in a technical repair environment.
Proficiency using hand tools for mechanical assembly and repair tasks.
Understanding of technical problems on mechanical product lines and how to resolve them.
Previous work experience or relevant education in a mechanical, electrical, or technical field.
Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with electro-mechanical, electronic, or optical equipment is beneficial.
Background in maintaining or repairing equipment similar to ATM or mail sorting systems is an advantage.
Ability to read and interpret technical information, such as equipment documentation or repair instructions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in all repair activities.
Effective communication skills to work within a technical repair team and discuss complex issues.

Work is hands‑on and tool-based, involving mechanical assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting in a workshop or repair facility setting, with regular interaction and knowledge sharing among experienced technicians.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dulles, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
