About the PositionWilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) is seeking an Electrician. This position provides maintenance, service, and repair for a wide range of electrical equipment, including power distribution systems, generators, food service equipment, appliances, power tools, washers, and dryers. The Electrician also supports campus operations by completing assigned duties, special projects, and additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, modify, and repair electrical wiring systems, lighting, power distribution, and equipment up to 480 volts.
- Lay out, assemble, install, and test electrical components such as conduit, junction boxes, outlets, and switch panels.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems using diagnostic tools including voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate installations and repairs.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to identify hazards, defects, and needed repairs.
- Diagnoses and repair electronic systems such as card access controls, video surveillance, fire alarms, building automation, SARA systems, and electronic door controls.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and electrical codes while ensuring reliable system operation.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team members on maintenance projects and respond to emergency service calls.
- Perform general maintenance tasks across carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing as needed.
- Complete routine tasks such as replacing light bulbs, moving furniture, changing air filters, resetting breakers, and assisting with ground maintenance.
- May assist Student Transportation as a driver when required.
- Participate in on call rotation for campus coverage and respond to emergencies or inclement weather.
- Considered Essential Personnel during assigned on call weeks involving weather related closures.
- Knowledge of institutional, commercial, industrial and residential electrical/electronic systems
- Knowledge of national and local building & safety codes
- Knowledge of electrical skills including the use of hand and power tools, meters, testers, recording devices, conduit tracers and conduit benders
- Knowledge in electronics as applied to fire alarms, communication systems, card access, digital video monitoring system, cable TV and network wiring
- Knowledge and ability to trouble shoot/repair electronic equipment
- Knowledge and ability to trouble shoot/repair kitchen/ laundry equipment
- Knowledge and experience with locating agency owned underground utilities. (Electrical, communications, fiber)
- Journeyman or Master Electrical Certification
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License
- Experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional electrical maintenance, including knowledge of electrical distribution systems, motors, generators, switch gear, transformers, and control systems.
- Experience with computerized work management system.
