Job Duties

Enhances public safety across the Commonwealth of Virginia by supporting successful inmate reentry and ensuring the effective security, custody, control, and rehabilitation of adult inmates and the safety of Department of Corrections staff within a major correctional facility.

The Electronic Security team provides electronic support and technical planning for the correctional centers to ensure the successful accomplishment of the Department of Corrections mission. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of electronic security, communication, access-control, surveillance, alarm, and facility-control systems within a secure correctional environment. Performs complex diagnostics and repairs, responds to emergency system failures, maintains technical records, coordinates with vendors and contractors, and provides technical guidance.

Must possess strong knowledge of electronics and low-voltage systems, the ability to interpret schematics and use electronic test equipment, and the ability to work safely and effectively within a correctional and public safety environment.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of tele-communication equipment and functionality. Considerable experience in electronics and CCTV troubleshooting.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of perimeter security and public address systems. Working knowledge of electronics theory including troubleshooting, calibration, test procedures, and circuit analysis. Knowledge of computers and peripheral equipment, ability to fabricate, modify and perform component level repair on a diversity of electronic instruments, ability to read and understand schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, flow charts, truth tables and service manuals.

Knowledge in two-way radio systems. Training, certification, or license in related trades. Additional experience in any of the following:
Electrical, Carpentry, HVAC, Vehicle or Equipment Repair, Locksmith, Painting and Plumbing. Prefer correctional experience.
