The following position is to join our RTX Enterprise Services Facilities Team:
Facilities, Lead Technician (HVAC Specialist) (Lead Tech, Facilities)Provide hands‑on leadership for our maintenance operations while serving as the primary subject matter expert for our commercial HVAC systems. This dual-focus role requires a licensed Journeyman HVAC technician with extensive commercial experience who can troubleshoot complex mechanical systems and effectively direct the daily work of facilities personnel.
What You Will Do- Team Leadership & Administration. Serve as the primary contact for operational escalations, urgent service requests, and facility emergencies.
- Oversee external contractors for specialized MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) work, ensuring safety compliance and quality control.
- Assist with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for routine repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Commercial HVAC Oversight & Technical Operations. Perform hands‑on maintenance, diagnostic testing, and advanced troubleshooting for chillers, boilers, RTUs, AHUs, VRF systems, and cooling towers.
- Monitor, and optimize Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure workplace comfort and maximum energy efficiency.
- Lead preventative maintenance schedules across all mechanical systems to extend equipment life and minimize operational downtime.
- Perform EPA‑compliant refrigerant recovery, charging, and documentation.
- Work from drawings, sketches and manuals to perform system installation work, adjust and replace component assemblies and parts as required to restore service.
- Assist others responsible for completing complex projects for new and refurbished systems.
- Perform similar duties throughout the facility within the scope and skill level of this job description.
- Assist other trades working on joint projects where common skill crossover provides the opportunity for shared responsibilities and more effective use of available skills.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal building codes, practices, and regulations.
- Will be required to carry a pager and be available for after‑hours support on a rotational basis with the other team members.
- Minimum of 8+ years of facilities HVAC technician and leadership experience and an AA/AS degree (or other 2‑year post high school training).
- Universal EPA Certification.
- Hands‑on experience in commercial HVAC troubleshooting, repair, and operational maintenance.
- General knowledge of Pneumatic controls, thermostats and VAV Boxes.
- Service and repair of environmental‑control systems associated with mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of HVAC Schematics, electronic wiring diagrams, and architectural/mechanical blueprints.
- Deep expertise reading complex schematics, electrical ladder diagrams, and building blueprints.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools, digital manifolds, and BAS interface platforms (e.g., Trane Tracer, Johnson Controls Metasys, Honeywell).
- Strong project organization, clear verbal communication, and confidence leading team members under deadline pressure.
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification.
- Journeyman HVAC License.
