Motor Equipment Technician; Drainage

Prince William County Public Works Construction and Operations is seeking a Motor Equipment Operator II. We have existing vacancies within our construction operations and drainage maintenance sectors. Our ideal candidate will thrive working in a team environment and capable of taking direction. This candidate will have Class A CDL or the ability to obtain within one (1) year;

a minimum of one (1) year of heavy construction experience with gravity pipe installation, repair, and/or replacement, possess a positive attitude and can-do spirit and be extremely reliable. This position is guaranteed to have a full-time schedule through the winter inclusive of all-weather environments.

The position is a vital part of a team that affects the lives of many people throughout the county. The Drainage Position is part of a team responsible for maintaining storm water management infrastructure, as well as the stormwater easements in the county. This role is expected to be able to effectively run some of our equipment in the fleet and to learn the construction field from our experienced staff.

There are endless advancement opportunities within the county that are inclusive of training and certification. This position enables you to operate county vehicle after reporting to the job site.

• 8th Grade Education and 1 year of related experience.
• Related experience includes:
• Full-time equipment operator in heavy construction field. Working knowledge of use of hand tools and power tools.
• Working knowledge of gravity pipe and related infrastructure installation and repair techniques, details, and procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively use technological tools and software (GIS, Mapper, Tablets, Windows).
• Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL within 1 year of your hiring date.

• Expansive background in stormwater construction/maintenance
• Experience with maintaining and repairing construction equipment
• A candidate who is dependable and reliable

• Must possess a valid Driver’s license, must pass local state and federal background check
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense access pass
• Must pass a fit for duty physical

Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours a day with an unpaid lunch break. Standard hours are 7am to 3pm. Occasional overtime may be required.

This position may be considered essential personnel during emergency operations.

$23.25/HR - $34.19/HR
