Job Duties
  • Maintain a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for patients housed in the Maximum Security Unit.
  • Provide therapeutic and physical interventions as needed and assist with monitoring and engagement activities with patients.
  • Communicate with patients, staff and visitors in a positive manner; build rapport and therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Provide monitoring and assistance to activities to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
  • Engage in activities with patients to build rapport and professional relationships.
  • Use safety plans to de-escalate situations without the use of physical intervention and promote positive behavior by serving as a role model.
  • Make rounds throughout the unit to ensure a safe environment and monitor patient activities; respond professionally to incidents and emergencies as directed by the on-duty charge person.
  • Ensure documentation is neat and legible; complete all assigned documentation and submit to the supervisor (e.g., control center logs, receipts, visitation records, temperature check forms, ward search forms, roving sheets).
  • Monitor special staffing assignments appropriately.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with patients.
Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

The position requires basic knowledge of state laws, the ability to communicate orally and in writing, good judgment, and physical capability including lifting, bending, walking/standing for most of the shift, and the ability to administer CPR. May require overtime hours.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
  • Previous security experience
