Prevention and Wellness Specialist (ID081)
The Prevention and Wellness Specialist is responsible for implementing the Northwestern Community Services Board’s (NWCSB) prevention and wellness logic model. The incumbent will follow the strategic prevention framework and the center for substance abuse prevention strategies to offer substance misuse, problem gambling, and suicide prevention services throughout the catchment area. The Prevention and Wellness Specialist will use the logic model to evaluate and measure program outcomes by assessing prevention needs, developing a strategic plan, implementing effective community prevention programs, policies, and practices and evaluating their efforts for outcomes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities- Assists the Prevention and Wellness Services Coordinator in developing and implementing NWCSB’s strategic prevention plan.
- Documents staff hours and activities in the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services’ (DBHDS’) collaborative planning group prevention database. Documents and evaluates the effectiveness of the services provided by the strategic prevention plan and ensures the collaborative planning group prevention database system is maintained and updated.
- Documents and reports staff time, mileage and other expenses related to programs, as requested.
- Coordinates and plans prevention and wellness activities in conjunction with other community agencies and groups, when appropriate. Represents the Agency at local prevention coalitions, as determined by the Prevention and Wellness Services Coordinator.
- Maintains good working relationships with community agencies that share goals and objectives compatible with NWCSB.
- Maintains a working knowledge of current technologies and evidence based practices in the field of prevention, as well as NWCSB’s prevention action plan.
- Supports and coordinates the implementation of grant specific programming and initiatives, as needed. Works with the supervisor to oversee budgetary aspects of grant funded prevention programming and initiatives. Ensures that proper documentation is completed, as needed.
- Provides information to stakeholders through educational programs, presentations, workshops, media interviews, and community events.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- A combination of education, training, and experience which indicates the possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform essential job duties required.
- Bachelor’s degree earned from an accredited college or university required.
- Human services or public health experience preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and the ability to provide your own transportation.
- May be exposed to individuals with infectious diseases.
- Must be able to drive for long periods of time to visit in and out of the catchment area as needed.
- Must be able to walk distances, climb and descend stairs, maneuver in and out of agency vehicles.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
