Job Duties
The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) is on a mission to provide the best customer experience possible as we build Virginia’s workforce, helping qualified people of all backgrounds start businesses and work in their chosen fields.
As the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of BMAW (Boxing, Martial Arts, and Wrestling), you will assist the Commissioner of BMAW and Deputy Commissioner of BMAW with all aspects of the Mixed Martial Arts and Boxing Programs, and manage the Professional Wrestling program
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12 months.
This wage position does not have state benefits.
- Ability to work weekends, evenings, and long hours as required to cover events
- Ability to interpret law and regulation
- Ability to work independently and schedule and supervise officials at boxing and MMA events
- Ability to drive long distances to events throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Ability to use computers and related software applications effectively, including email, spreadsheets, databases, and event‑management systems
- Ability to provide strong customer service, including clear communication, timely responses, and professional interaction with event participants, officials, and the public
- Knowledge of combat sports rules and regulations preferred
- Knowledge of sports environment preferred
