Under general supervision, position is responsible for aiding swim instructors during learn-to-swim programs. Employee is responsible for the safety of class participants. Reports to the Swim Lesson Coordinator or Designee.
- Supports the instructor during swim lessons, according to the guidelines set forth by the Swim Lesson Coordinator/Instructor.
- Instructs Monday through Thursday, providing make-up classes on Fridays.
- Provides instructional support for the entire class time.
- Stores all swim lesson equipment in a shed or storage room.
- Attends required in-service training.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Must be 15 years of age or older.
Swim Team experience or the ability to demonstrate skill is required. Must be able to perform all skills taught in lessons for levels in which you aid / instruct.
Certifications in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Community CPR/First Aid/AED required.
Must successfully complete mandatory Parks & Recreation Training Program before specific job duties are assigned.
Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and drug screen
- Knowledge of swimming strokes with the ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and swimming safety precautions.
- Ability to mimic the class instructor when teaching skills to reinforce participant learning
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
- Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
- Ability to read a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures.
- Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures and policies, and follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines, and objectives.
- Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal stress when confronted with an emergency.
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully.
Must be physically able to run, bend, and walk to meet the needs of the position. Tasks require the ability to exert light to medium physical effort which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with job-related equipment. May require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds by ear).
