Introduction
Do you have a passion for fitness? Are you motivated to design and deliver stimulating, creative group fitness experiences to inspire your neighbors? The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) offers a wide variety of group fitness classes throughout the community. This is a Part‑Time, non‑benefitted position that requires a flexible schedule, including daytime, evening, and weekend classes.
LocationsSharron Baucom Dale City Rec Center – 14300 Minnieville Rd, Dale City, VA
Starting Payrate$23.25 per hour
Nature of WorkInstructors teach beginner‑level fitness classes, such as open‑schedule classes and personal training. They may also perform daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.
Typical Class Responsibilities- Conduct aerobic, weight training, and other exercise classes, ensuring patrons perform exercises accurately and safely.
- Provide excellent customer service, answer questions, and maintain client membership information.
- Maintain and prepare equipment and facility, coordinate schedules, track attendance, and review feedback.
- Enforce program and facility rules; provide emergency care and treatment as required.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Special training and experience in specified activities.
- Customer service principles.
- Basic exercise science principles and theories.
- Recordkeeping principles.
- Applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
- Modern office technology and related software applications.
- Providing customer service.
- Monitoring equipment usage.
- Maintaining basic operational records and reports.
- Using computers and related software applications.
- Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards.
- Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
8th‑grade education and 0–12 months of related experience. Professional fitness certification and CPR/First Aid certifications are required.
Special RequirementsMust be at least 16 years old; may require Federal or State background check.
Physical RequirementsPositions typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and other physically demanding tasks. Employees may experience moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and other occupational hazards.
