General Responsibilities: A school coach provides the necessary practice, support, supervision, and advice for the team to be successful against opposing teams during a sports season.

Essential Tasks:

• Previous experience playing or coaching applicable sport
• Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport(s) they plan on coaching
• Strong leadership qualities
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Communication skills
• Teamwork skills
• Ability to teach relevant skills, tactics, and techniques
• Monitor performance and provide constructive feedback to individuals and the team
• Perform some administrative tasks regarding organization and team information distribution
• Perform related work as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The coach is responsible for organizing out‑of‑season workouts, tryouts, and season practices. They collaborate with the administration and athletic director on scheduling that impacts the sport. The coaching staff is expected to field teams with students who represent BCPS with quality players who demonstrate strong character daily. Coaches must uphold professionalism while representing BCPS in all capacities.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED (a comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications).

Physical Requirements: Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid driver’s license; successful completion of a criminal background investigation; participation in VHSL Coaches’ Education and Pre‑Season Coaches’ Meetings led by the BCPS Athletic Director.
