Position Summary
Mount Tabor Baptist Church is a small mission-focused congregation located in Keeling, Virginia, within Pittsylvania County between Danville and South Boston. The church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia and maintains a strong commitment to missions, biblical preaching, and community engagement. Average attendance is approximately 40 for weekly worship services and 22 for Sunday School. The Pastor will be responsible for the spiritual leadership of the congregation through preaching, relationship‑building, and effective pastoral leadership.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Preach and teach the Word of God faithfully, affirming the belief that the Bible is the infallible Word of God on Sunday morning and Wednesday Prayer/Bible Study.
- Schedule pastoral guest speakers when on vacation or strategically for special emphasis.
- Provide intercessory prayer.
- Visit members in the hospital and nursing homes.
- Visit members or prospects at home or over a meal.
- Provide spiritual leadership that encourages growth in faith, fellowship, and outreach.
- Build strong and caring relationships with the congregation and broader community.
- Plan and organize ministry activities with ministry leaders (WMU & MFG).
- Provide pastoral care, counseling, and guidance to members of the congregation.
- Work collaboratively with church leadership to support the overall vision and ministries of the church.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a clear calling to pastoral ministry and alignment with the Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia's beliefs and practices. Agreement with Baptist Faith and Message 2000 is required. Candidates must affirm the authority and infallibility of Scripture and possess strong skills in preaching, leadership and relationship‑building. Must bear witness to a clear testimony of conversion, evidence of fruit of the Spirit, and a commitment to personal and spiritual growth.
Candidates should be ordained and have a Seminary degree. One to five years' experience serving a congregation as a pastor or in a church‑ministry role is preferred.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. A benefits package may be subject to negotiation, including assistance with relocation costs.
