St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Yorktown, VA, is seeking Youth Director for our youth ministry (Grades 6–12). This ministry will foster spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Administration- Program Development: Plan, develop, and implement ministry with a balance of worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach consistent with church doctrine.
- Vision & Planning: Contribute to the committee’s vision for how the church engages youth; develop a strategic plan that aligns with the church’s doctrine.
- Budget Management: Develop, propose, and manage the annual youth ministry budget.
- Timely Communication: Maintain professional, timely, and consistent communication with church leadership, staff, parents, and youth regarding schedules and activities.
- Staff
Collaboration:
Participate in weekly staff meetings and bimonthly church council meetings.
- Confirmation: Encourage and support Confirmation classes in partnership with the Pastor .
- Student Leadership: Mentor youth in their confirmation journey by helping them grow in faith and discover their spiritual gifts and role within the church body.
- Christian
Education:
Coordinate the youth group curriculum and recruit/train volunteers.
- Weekly Gatherings: Coordinate youth meetings (typically Sunday afternoons/evenings and designated weeknights and special events).:
- Activity Calendar: Create and maintain activity calendar youth activities.
- Retreats & Camps: Oversee and lead periodic weekend local activities and occasional out-of-town weekend retreats.
- Missions: Lead youth on short‑term mission experiences both local and , surrounding regional..
- Volunteer Recruitment: Recruit, develop, and deploy new volunteers to ensure a sustainable ministry structure and retention.
- Visibility: Be available, visible, and welcoming to the youth and their parents, establishing a safe and trusted presence in their lives.
- Faith Commitment: A professing Christian with a willingness to support the theology of the United Methodist Church.
- Experience: Preferred experience working with youth (ages 11–18) in a ministry or mentorship capacity.
- Core Competencies: Organizational skills, ability to manage a budget, self‑motivated, and verbal/written communication skills.
- Clearance: Must submit to a background check and complete UMC Safe Sanctuaries/Safe Gatherings training.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required for transporting youth to events.
