Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Position Summary
The Operating Room (OR) Manager is a Registered Nurse responsible for the clinical leadership, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and daily functioning of Surgical Services. This is a working manager role. The OR Manager actively participates in direct patient care, including circulating and assisting with surgical and GI procedures, while maintaining accountability for department performance, staff supervision, and ongoing DNV survey readiness.
The OR Manager maintains full clinical competency and skills validation consistent with department standards.
- Clinical Responsibilities
- Provides direct perioperative nursing care in the Operating Room and procedural areas.
- Functions as a circulator and assists physicians during surgical and GI procedures as needed.
- Performs comprehensive preoperative and postoperative assessments.
- Demonstrates competency in conscious/moderate sedation.
- Administers medications and IV therapy safely.
- Interprets cardiac monitoring and responds appropriately to dysrhythmias.
- Maintains surgical asepsis and infection prevention standards.
- Ensures accurate, complete documentation within the shift.
- Treats patients and families with dignity, compassion, and respect.
- Maintains flexibility and functions effectively in high-acuity or stressful situations.
- Department Leadership & Supervision
- Provides day‑to‑day supervision of Surgical Services staff.
- Oversees staffing assignments to ensure safe patient care.
- Conducts performance evaluations and competency validations.
- Participates in hiring, coaching, and corrective action in collaboration with the CNO and HR.
- Ensures staff completion of required education and certifications.
- Promotes teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Quality & DNV Regulatory Oversight
- Ensures compliance with DNV accreditation standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, and OSHA and infection prevention guidelines.
- Maintains continuous survey readiness.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and performance monitoring.
- Reviews incident reports and assists with corrective action plans.
- Ensures equipment maintenance logs and regulatory documentation are current.
- Supports environmental rounding and compliance audits.
- Operational Accountability
- Assists with department scheduling and workflow coordination.
- Monitors supply usage and preference card accuracy.
- Collaborates with sterile processing and ancillary departments.
- Supports cost‑conscious practices while maintaining patient safety.
- Assists with budget monitoring in collaboration with the CNO.

- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia – Required
- Current ACLS certification
- Minimum 3 years perioperative nursing experience
- Leadership or charge nurse experience preferred
- Knowledge of DNV accreditation standards preferred
- Prolonged standing and walking in surgical environment
- Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling
- Ability to assist with patient positioning and transfers
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens and surgical hazards
- Required use of PPE
- Ability to hear alarms and physician instructions clearly
