Position Title:

Nursing Operations Manager – Giles Community Hospital (Open)

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of a direct care nursing unit/area, bridging daily operations with organizational goals.
• Provide operational support to nursing units at Carilion Giles Community Hospital.
• Deliver day‑to‑day leadership for the implementation and execution of departmental goals, action plans, and objectives.
• Manage unit throughput, patient experience rounding, employee rounding, and quality monitoring.
• Plan budget and oversee expenses, engaging in cost‑containment initiatives.
• Coordinate resources to ensure adequate staffing and establish daily priorities.
• Assign staff tasks and facilitate team problem‑solving processes.
• Communicate, organize, prioritize, lead, facilitate, coach, and problem‑solve with reporting staff to meet objectives.
• Provide real‑time staff feedback and service recovery.
• Partner with other department leaders to launch new health‑care services and performance‑improvement initiatives.
• May provide direct patient care or assist in overall patient care.
• Create a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Complete daily leadership rounding focusing on quality and patient experience.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff.
• Manage and maintain unit schedule with appropriate staffing mix.
• Facilitate and coordinate daily interdisciplinary rounds to ensure efficient throughput.
• Collaborate with medical staff to ensure effective and quality patient care.
• Escalate concerns to leadership as appropriate.

• Education:
  
  Graduate of a professional nursing school. BSN required within 18 months for non‑Magnet facilities.
• Experience:
  
  Minimum 2 years in a clinical nursing role.
• Licensure:
  Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Life Support: AHA BLS‑HCP required; may need BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP based on the specific work unit.
• Psychiatry and Behavioral Health:
  De‑escalation training must be completed within four months of hire and maintained thereafter.

  Demonstrates excellent problem‑solving, interpersonal, communication, team leadership, priority setting, and work competency skills.
• Psychiatry and Behavioral Health:
  Ability to appropriately handle/restrain disruptive or physically violent patients.
