Overview

Rappahannock General Hospital

Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position:
Assists with supervising and coordinating the administrative and operational activities in the assigned areas. Collaborates with interprofessional team to ensure safe and effective care delivery while promoting a culture of excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Leads a team of nurses and clinical support.
  • Supports managers/directors on larger units.
  • Performs managerial responsibilities 80% of the time; works on ground support for frontline staff and assists in direct patient care as needed.
  • Assists manager/director in planning and supervision of unit/department goals and objectives.
  • Assists with managers/directors in planning and maintaining department's readiness for regulatory surveyors.
  • Serves as professional role model, mentor, and clinical resource.
  • Responsible for personal and professional growth and fostering an environment where interdisciplinary team members can contribute to optimal patient outcomes and grow professionally.
  • Responsible for modeling core culture and safety behaviors to eliminate preventable harm and implement high reliability principles.
  • Facilitates implementation of change management, performance improvement, and strategic initiatives in assigned areas.
  • Supports mission and vision of the organization and adheres to policy.
  • Practice and deliver care in accordance with the core concepts and intention of the Nursing Professional Practice Model.
Licensing/Certification
  • Current RN license in state of practice or compact license (required).
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to entering patient care setting).
  • Certifications required based on the unit(s) overseen and the requirements for those specific units:
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred)
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)
  • NRP Neonatal Resuscitation Program (preferred)
  • TNCC Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (preferred)
  • ENPC Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (preferred)
  • National Board Certification Specialty (preferred)
  • Nurse Executive Certification or designated specialty certification (preferred)
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required within 5 years for magnet facilities).
Work Experience
  • 2 years nursing experience with 1 year minimum clinical experience in the acuity level of the desired area (preferred).
