Registerd Nurse

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care for residents and students.
• Serves as an active member of the multidisciplinary treatment team to determine and provide the best possible care.
• Ensures the safety and wellbeing of each resident/student.
• Supervises medication schedules and administers medications in accordance with established safety, facility, and regulatory requirements, minimizing medication errors.
• Ensures residents/students receive needed medical care.
• Coordinates with staffing, including referrals for outside medical treatment, as needed.
• Documents resident information into the electronic program system.
• Draws labs as ordered by the doctor.
• Notifies staff of the next employee required to supervise the shift.
• Charts check, charts labs, and completes daily nursing notes for each resident.
• Obtains weekly nursing assessments and conducts nursing groups twice a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays).
• Completes admission documentation within 24 hours.
• Works closely with the therapist for visitations and passes for the residents.
• Supervises staff to follow the daily program daily.
• Conducts nursing assessments on residents and accurately documents outcomes.
• Attends to medical complaints and concerns by residents/students in a timely manner.
• Observes restraint episodes and provides one-hour assessment.
• Ensures accurate completion of incident reports and notifications to administration.
• Provides medication education to residents and their families as needed.
• Provides notifications of incidents, medical concerns, and medication changes to families and referral sources.
• Maintains strict confidentiality and privacy of residents' personally identifiable health information per HIPAA and facility policies.
• Meets mandatory staff development requirements per regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Ensures duties may include additional work, as described, that is related or logically assigned to the position.

• Registered Nurse Diploma (required)
• Associate of Applied Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred, not required)
• Must be at least 19 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities.
• Minimum of 6 months experience (preferred)

• Registered Nurse License by the Department of Health Professions in good standing.
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) / First Aid certification.
• Facility’s approved Behavioral Management Program certification.
• Valid driver’s license.

Works in a well-lit, air-conditioned, and heated environment most of the time, with possible exposure to outside elements.
