Nurse Practitioner II

Role Description

Certified nurse practitioners performing responsibilities that require an advanced level of certification and/or license as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Must be fully autonomous.

• Provides total health care to inmates (routine, chronic, and emergency care), maintaining continuity of care from admission to discharge.
• Performs initial and ongoing medical assessments, prescribing appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates with medical needs, and assists with preparation/modification of medical treatment plans.
• Ensures safe medication administration and provides health services in accordance with Department of Corrections (DOC) policy, American Correctional Association (ACA) standards of care, and operational policies and procedures.
• May be assigned to other duties or locations to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.

• Scope includes performing physical examinations and preventive health measures, ordering and performing diagnostic procedures, prescribing controlled substances and devices in accordance with current regulations.
• Contacts are made with patients in the provision of care and limited contact with physicians for consultation.

• The limited availability of physician oversight increases the consequence of error.
• Work significantly affects the health of patients due to higher level of independence.

• Performs work under limited access to a physician or in an environment where physician availability is typically limited.
• Works independently with minimal supervision, providing diagnosis and treatment according to protocol.

• Local - $87/hr
