American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg surgical unit requiring a VA or compact license and at least 2 years of surgical nursing experience.

• Inpatient, fast-paced surgical Med/Surg unit
• Cares for adult and pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and older depending on procedure
• Handles general, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, spine, bariatric, hysterectomy, and mastectomy surgical cases
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
• Requires every other weekend work
• Floating to other units expected at times
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Meditech charting system experience preferred

• Active RN license, VA state or compact required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Previous surgical unit experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skilled in wound care/wound vac, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur Evac), and isolation precautions/PPE
• Experience with IV therapy, central line and PICC line management, and blood product administration preferred
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and rapid response/code team protocols preferred
• Experience with total joint replacement and peripheral nerve block catheters preferred

• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted
• Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff at the facility within the past 24 months are not eligible
• RTO policy: if one holiday falls within the assignment, expect to work it; if two, expect to work one; if three, expect to work two
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, though efforts will be made to group shifts when possible
• Facility maintains a zero-tolerance drug policy; medical marijuana cards are not accepted
• Fit testing is required, and candidates must be clean-shaven unless a provider-approved exemption is obtained prior to starting
