Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
This role requires a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. The nurse will work on a combined unit servicing Labor and Delivery, post-partum, antepartum, and Level II nursery. The role involves managing patients during vaginal and cesarean deliveries. The nurse will also care for level 2 obstetrical clientele and Level 2 NICU neonatal clientele. Patient care includes managing antepartum patients, observational triage patients, and mother-baby couplet care.
Procedures associated with obstetrics such as versions, induction of labor, cervical ripening, and bereavement care will be performed. Staffing ratios include 1:1 for complications or active labor, 1:3 for stable antepartum patients, and 2:1 for deliveries. If floated outside specialty, duties will include assisting nurses with assigned patients using general nursing skills. Call may be required depending on staffing needs.
The unit works with interdisciplinary support teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.
