Position Overview

A Mowing Team Technician works under the direction of the Team Leader. The primary function is to assist the Team Leader in mowing operations, operate a variety of equipment, and have basic horticultural knowledge.

Job Functions
  • Review job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed daily.
  • Read and interpret aerial service maps.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used.
  • Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques.
  • Perform the following landscape services: mowing with push, walk‑behind, and stand‑on mowers using alternating mowing patterns; edging with stick edger, string trimmer, and mower; blowing with handheld or backpack blower; landscape bed maintenance including spraying and pulling weeds; pruning horticulturally correct tree, shrub, and perennial pruning; plant health identification of basic plant health issues; irrigation minor repairs; floral services care and maintenance;

    spring clean‑ups including bed cleanout, bed edging, pre‑emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation; leaf removal using Ventrac, backpack blowers, stand‑on zero turns with baggers, and truck‑mounted leaf vac; snow removal; and any other tasks necessary.
  • Operate small and medium‑duty tools and equipment including push mower, zero turn mower, walk‑behind mower, leaf vac, Ventrac, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re‑definers, rototiller, string trimmer, stick edger, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader.
  • Identify enhancement ideas to improve client property and submit to team leader.
  • Learn and have a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities, and limits of work.
Working Conditions

Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited control over noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly. The team member is expected to work Monday through Friday as well as weekends and overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

Requirements
  • High school degree or GED required, plus at least two years of documented experience in the green industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management.
  • Great analytical problem‑solving and decision‑making ability.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate with clients and professionals.
  • Efficiency in using Google Translate to communicate with Spanish‑speaking workers.
  • Assist team leader with training and coaching a team of two or more members to develop their skills and ensure proper training.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site; ensure truck and tools/equipment are properly maintained.
  • Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Responsible for returning all tools to the shop at day’s end and tagging tools needing repairs.
  • Ability to drive truck and trailer combinations.
  • Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance.
  • Work as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude.
  • Know and support the company’s vision, mission, and core values.
Certifications
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record.
  • VDACS Registered Tech Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
