Landscape Technician

Responsibilities

Perform manual labor, semi-skilled, and technical work in landscape maintenance, ornamental horticulture, and/or construction and maintenance of County grounds and facilities. Serve as a lead worker assisting in the training and direction of entry‑level seasonal employees. Operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform landscaping, construction, and custodial duties.

• High school graduate or equivalent and 2–3 years of related experience, or any combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with a good driving record.
• Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Certified Pesticide Applicator (State Category 3a and 3b), or ability to obtain such license within 6 months of employment.
• Dependable and in good physical condition.
• Physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment, including lawn mower, weed eater, chipper, edger, blower, chainsaw, hand tools, shovel, hoe, rake, pruning equipment, etc., and a motor vehicle.
• Capacity for heavy lifting, carrying of materials, bending, stooping, standing, and walking while performing grounds‑keeping and construction activities.

• Safety shoes required.
• Work performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to typical hazards of maintenance and construction work.
• Position classified as an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA). Employee must report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled hours or as notified by a supervisor.
• DMV records and criminal background checks conducted prior to employment.
