Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Trim and/or remove trees by climbing with ladders, safety belts, climbing lines, powered trimmer lift trucks or from the ground using gas, air, and hand‑powered saws, pruners, etc., and drop or lower material to the ground with lines.
  • Use wedges, sledges, and chainsaws when felling trees or trimmed trunks; cut and split logs into manageable pieces.
  • Operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Plan, assign, direct, check, and coordinate work.
  • Obtain written or oral permission from property owners to trim, remove trees, or perform other work; arrange access and advise on interruptions or job details.
  • Promote and maintain good customer and public relations through effective work and proper crew conduct.
  • Spray areas to prevent future growth.
  • Load and unload trucks; feed brush and debris into a wood chipper.
  • Repair minor job‑related damage to lawns, fences, and walkways.
  • Service gasoline, air, and hand‑powered tools, and other equipment.
  • Relay hand signals, direct traffic, drive, and operate trucks and equipment as assigned.
  • Operate a bucket near energized lines to remove branches and tree material.
  • Keep trucks and work areas clear and orderly.
  • Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
  • Cooperate with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways.
  • Set up barriers, warning signs, flags, markers, etc., to protect employees and the public.
  • Be trained to perform tree and bucket rescue.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Inspect and ensure proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and other equipment.
  • Use hand tools such as axes, handlines, saws, block and tackle, pruners, etc.
  • Train new personnel.
  • Request repair or replacement when necessary.
  • Maintain good housekeeping on trucks and at work locations.
  • Perform other related work as assigned by superiors.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work with hands above head for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk, climb, and work from ladders or at various heights on uneven, slippery surfaces, under all weather conditions while handling equipment or material.
  • Knowledge to identify tree and shrub species.
  • No fear of heights.
  • Good hand‑to‑eye coordination.
  • Willing and able to work long hours, overtime during emergencies, including holidays and weekends.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Entry‑level position; no prior experience required.
  • Previous experience is a plus.
Pre‑Screen
  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and/or MVR check.
License & Certifications
  • Obtain a driver’s license or commercial driver’s license when required.
  • Obtain herbicide license when required.
Travel Requirements
  • Ability to report and/or travel for storm emergencies.

  • Rare (less than 10%):
    Sitting, kneeling, crawling, color vision, climbing stairs.
  • Occasional (up to 33%):
    Stooping, squatting, climbing on/off truck, climbing ladders, pushing, reading.
  • Frequent (up to 66%):
    Carrying, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, body‑twisting, hearing/speech range, lifting up to 10 lbs., manual dexterity, speaking clearly, walking.
  • Continuous (up to 100%):
    Standing, sense of touch, gripping, seeing distant, reaching, range‑of‑motion, depth perception, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., climbing poles, sense of touch.
