Dublin Animal Hospital is an AAHA-certified veterinary practice focusing on small animals, pocket pets, and exotics. The practice is located less than 20 miles away from Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, making it an ideal location for new veterinary graduates as well as current students looking for an externship at an established clinic. At Dublin Animal Hospital, we offer preventive care services as well surgical procedures (C-section, cherry eye surgery, and more), and veterinarians are supported by one technician or assistant per doctor.

Digital x-ray, ultrasound, and EKG equipment are available for use as needed, and boarding is also offered for medical or vacation purposes!

Veterinary Assistant

Position Summary:

The Veterinary Technician plays a vital role inassistingveterinarians and the medical support teamtoensurethe delivery of high-quality, compassionate care to pets and their families. This position is responsible for performing a variety of technical, clinical, and client education duties that enhance efficiency, promote a safe and collaborative hospital environment, and elevate the overall client experience. The Veterinary Technician alsoassistsinmaintainingconsistent, excellent medical standards and operational flow.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to hospitalized patients, including IV catheter placement, medication administration, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Prepare,monitor, and recover patients undergoing surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout all phases of care.
  • Assistveterinarians during examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures, providing proper restraint, preparation, and patient monitoring.
  • Perform laboratory diagnostics including urinalysis, hematology,fecals, and cytology; accurately document, interpret, and communicate results as appropriate.
  • Operate andmaintaindiagnostic equipment, including radiology and ultrasound systems, in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed, maintaining strict compliance with DEA, OSHA, AHAA and hospital regulations.
  • Maintain accurate daily controlled drug logs and ensure proper storage, and documentation of controlled substances.
  • Monitor, and implement treatment plans accurately in the document.
  • Support hospital operations throughaccuratemedical recordkeeping, charge entry, and chart auditing.
  • Provide compassionate, clear client education related to preventative care, treatment plans, medications, products, and nutritional recommendations. Take concise medical histories.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment and surgical areas, ensuring sterile conditions for medical and surgical procedures.
  • Monitor inventory levels, rotate stock, andassistwith ordering medical supplies as needed.
  • Promote a positive and professional workplace culture through effective communication, teamwork, and collaboration across departments.
  • Ensure all duties are performed in accordance withstate practice acts, legal requirements, and hospital policies.
  • Performadditionalduties as assigned based on hospital needs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant preferred.
  • Demonstratedproficiencyin anesthesia monitoring, venipuncture, laboratory procedures, radiology, and dentistry.
  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to navigate practice management software and use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in maintains professionalism, composure, and sound judgment in emotionally charged or high-stress situations.
  • Capable ofmultitasking in a fast-paced setting whilemaintainingaccuracy and attention to detail.
