Pet Vet Care Centers' Ruckersville Animal Hospital is currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team.

Position Overview

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks, including cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and performing clerical and administrative work. This role ensures quality care for all patients and provides exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide compassionate care to all patients.
  • Greet patients and their owners, take weight and vital signs, and triage patients.
  • Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint.
  • Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs.
  • Operate and maintain hospital equipment including EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, and machines.
  • Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper documentation, and secure controlled drugs.
  • Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, and report unusual conditions or abnormal behaviors.
  • Communicate positively with clients, ensuring they feel comfortable leaving their pet(s).
  • Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the hospital, equipment, kennels, and facilities using chemicals safely and completing laundry.
  • Bath and care for overnight patients, ensuring each animal is clean and groomed prior to release.
  • Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Show up for work regularly; full‑time presence at work is essential for every shift.
  • Promote hospital products and services and support the organization.
  • Respond respectfully and promptly to directions from DVM or LVT.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager or in a specialty area (e.g., dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine).
Qualifications
  • Experience as an assistant in the Veterinary Medicine field.
Schedule
  • Full Time, Day Shift.
  • Monday‑Friday from 8 AM‑6 PM.
  • Flexible with schedules.
